Easily create your own ChatGames or play games by others.
ChatGameLab runs on the basis of ChatGPT. Creating or playing games will help you understand the power and limitations of AI.

Play to learn about AI
Create your own interactive text adventure game based on ChatGPT in just a few minutes. Or try out one of these existing scenarios:
Around The World
80 days and 20.000 pounds. How far can Phileas Fogg travel in this based on the Jules Vernes classic. (english/german)
Around the World – Steampunk
“but propped up with Steampunk machinery and dangerous monsters.” Find out what difference nine words can make. (english/german)
Mauerflucht
You want to flee from East to West Germany during cold war 1970.
(english/german)
Harry in Danger
Harry was abducted. Hermione and Ron have 30 Minutes to save him. (english/german)
Your Game

The Idea
Most people know ChatGPT as a “helpful assistant”.
But instead you can also define ChatGPT as grumpy or sad. Or you can define your very own character, e.g. based on a well-known figure such as Dr. John H. Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ assistant, and give him a scenario that runs in its own graphical interface. With a little skill, you can create your own, potentially infinite, interactive text adventure.
The Goal
It is very easy to adapt the ChatGame Scenarios to educational content. For example, a history teacher could devise the scenario “You are Caesar and have three years and four legions to conquer Gaul”. The task he gives to the students would be to play the game and check it for historical accuracy.
Creating new or testing the existing interactive text adventures can provide a playful and critical look under the hood of ChatGPT.
Little by little we want to:
- expand and refine the concept as well its technical base
- create documentation to support educators in developing their own scenarios and applying them.
- discuss these scenarios and make them available to other educators and students alike.
- All created content will be some form of open source or creative commons. Interested? Help us. We are looking for collaborators.
The Development
ChatGPT Adventure is being developed by game developer and programmer Florian Metzger-Noel (concept idea and programming) and media educator Ulrich Tausend (adaptation as educational tool). Initial funding was provided by the Media Center Parabol. The project is supported by JFF – Institute for Media Education in Research and Practice. The concept was first presented at Play23.
“Our rapidly evolving digital world necessitates a deep understanding of AI’s capabilities and pitfalls. ChatGameLab serves as a creative and educational platform, enabling users to explore and grasp the intricacies of AI through interactive chat games. This project, proudly open-source, invites collaborators to join us in shaping the future of AI learning and engagement.””
